Although Nintendo did not come to CES 2025, despite rumors of a possible Switch 2 announcement in January 2025, we still managed to see the new console. Genki, a company specializing in gaming accessories, demonstrated a 3D model of the upcoming device, The Verge reports.

According to the layout, the successor to the Nintendo Switch will be slightly larger than the first version, but still remain more compact than competitors’ consoles such as the Steam Deck. The increase in size is explained by wider joysticks that should provide more convenient use. In addition, not only the size, but also the method of attaching the joysticks will change – now they will be fixed with magnets.

According to Genki CEO Eddie Tsai, to detach the Joycons from the new Switch, you will need to press a large button on their back cover. Tsai also noted that the Joycons can also be separated by force. In addition, he said that there will be an optical sensor inside the joystick that will allow users to use the controllers as a mouse.

The layout of the next Nintendo Switch is similar to the one previously demonstrated in a video on the SwitchUP channel. According to the authors, they received their model from a Chinese case manufacturer. This mockup, in particular, shows that the console will be equipped with a USB-C port and a new square button located below the Home button on the right controller.

Soon, similar rumors emerged from another accessory manufacturer, DBrand. The company’s CEO, Adam Ijaz, said that they also received the dimensions of the console and 3D scans showing a new button labeled “C”.

Nintendo has promised to release a new portable console by April 2025. The company is expected to hold a Nintendo Direct event by the end of January, where the Nintendo Switch 2 may be officially announced.
