Today, DS Automobiles has unveiled its latest DS No. 8 (or DS 8), a full-fledged electric car (there will be no versions with conventional internal combustion engines) in the now popular coupe-crossover format. It is also a rather large electric vehicle: a considerable 4.82-meter length and 2.9-meter wheelbase, with a maximum of 21-inch wheels. In addition, the new DS No. 8 stands out for its very aerodynamic body, with a drag coefficient of just Cx=0.24.
After all, aerodynamics is one of the keys to increasing mileage, along with increasing the battery and creating more efficient electric motors. The developers of DS No. 8 claim that aerodynamics helped them gain 60-75 km of range, depending on driving conditions. In general, the DS No. 8 version with a maximum battery capacity of 97 kWh, a single electric motor and front-wheel drive is promised a range of up to 750 km on the WLTP cycle – an excellent result!
The top-of-the-line DS 8 with two electric motors and all-wheel drive will also be equipped with a large battery, but it will not be able to demonstrate such record-breaking autonomy. However, the DS 8 AWD will be able to demonstrate something else: the total power of the electric motors is stated at 350 hp with the possibility of a short-term increase to 375 hp (i.e., a maximum of 275 kW), which should allow for acceleration from 0-100 km/h in 5.4 seconds. However, the top speed will be the same for all versions of the electric vehicle – 190 km/h is promised.
As is usually the case with DS Automobiles models, the interior deserves special attention. The designers of DS No. 8 clearly had a blast: X-shaped steering wheel and 16-inch display, seats with integrated headrest and pearl stitching, and signature watch strap trim. However, comfort was not forgotten: the front passengers of DS No. 8 are offered such a unique feature as neck heating; the rear passengers have not only heated but also ventilated seats. There’s also night vision, Focal premium audio, and much more.
By the way, in addition to the two aforementioned versions of the electric car, there is also a third version of the DS No. 8 with front-wheel drive and a small battery (74 kWh), but also with a minimum price. We will find out in mid-2025, when sales on the European market begin.
