It seems that Google is returning to the idea of creating smart glasses. This is reported by The Verge, citing Google Deep Mind product manager Bibo Xu.

The company is testing the new Project Astra AI agent on glasses prototypes.

“A small group will be testing Project Astra on prototype glasses, which we believe is one of the most powerful and intuitive form factors to experience this kind of AI,” says Xu.

The company has not yet openly announced plans to launch a consumer product, but it remains a possibility.

According to reports, testers will be involved in the Trusted Tester program, although not all tests will take place on these prototype glasses. For example, some will have access to Project Astra on Pixel 9 smartphones.

Google has also patented a new model of smart glasses. The patent was discovered on December 10, 2024. The glasses are reportedly equipped with a display, speaker, and eye tracking technology.

Google is also collaborating with Samsung to create smart glasses that will look like Ray-Ban Meta.
