Apple CEO Tim Cook gave an interview to WIRED in which he shared some details of Apple Intelligence development and the company’s vision of the future in the AI field.
Cook noted that work on artificial intelligence began in 2017. The team that worked on the Neural Engine (a series of AI accelerators), which was rumored to be developing a smart car, proposed to integrate machine learning into Apple products.
Apple is particularly interested in implementing AI in health and safety. Thanks to machine learning, the company’s devices are becoming more accurate in tracking user behavior and health indicators. At the same time, Apple emphasizes privacy by using local data processing directly on devices to protect user information. Complex operations are performed on remote servers with reliable security systems, as implemented in the iPhone.
In addition to healthcare, Cook noted that artificial intelligence is affecting other aspects of the Apple ecosystem. AI is becoming an invisible but important part of Apple’s user experience, from improved Siri interaction to predictive text suggestions and photo sorting.
Although he did not go into details about the upcoming features, Cook assured that Apple’s investment in artificial intelligence will continue to focus on practical applications that improve the user experience without compromising privacy.
As a reminder, Apple is currently preparing iOS 18.2 update with advanced features of Apple Intelligence. The final version of the system is already available for developers and public beta testers. The stable release of the software for all users will take place next week.
