Google’s iOS app has a new feature called Page Annotations. This feature automatically creates hyperlinks for interesting objects in the text. Search Engine Roundtable writes about it.
After clicking on the hyperlink, the app redirects the user to the search results page for the selected word. This seems like an interesting move for a company trying to prove that it is not a monopolist in the search business.
The company allows website owners to opt out of this feature. To do this, you need to fill out an application. According to Google, it will be processed within 30 days.
This feature is reminiscent of the new AdSense ad format that Google introduced in early 2024. This format works in a similar way, turning the text of a web page into an ad that opens in Google Search. But this function does not work on a website without the owner’s consent.
