S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl may be completely banned in Russia and criminalized for its purchase. According to Russian media, this was stated by Anton Gorelkin, Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy.
According to Gorelkin, the reason is that the Ukrainian studio GSC Game World supports the Armed Forces of Ukraine. In addition, he believes that “illegal” information can be found in the game, such as “justification of terrorism” or “incitement to international hatred.”
“I believe that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl has every chance of being officially banned in Russia. I don’t think, however, that this will happen based solely on the fact that the game’s developers support the Armed Forces of Ukraine. However, I do not rule out that if the game content contains illegal information (extremism, justification of terrorism, incitement to ethnic hatred, etc.), the most severe measures will be taken,” said Gorelkin.
It is also possible that Russian players who knowingly purchased the game, knowing that the proceeds from it go to support the Ukrainian Armed Forces, could face criminal penalties. In addition, if prohibited information is found in the game and some users knowingly disseminate it, they may also face punishment.
As with any such events, the community was quick to react, and appropriate illustrations for Russians who are going to buy the game have already appeared online.
In the meantime, we remind you that S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2: Heart of Chornobyl will officially release on November 20 on PC and Xbox X|S Series. On Steam, the game is already among the best sellers, and in any case, there is no official sale in Russia.
