Warner Bros. CEO David Zaslav admitted that the company’s gaming business has problems during the announcement of financial statements for the last quarter. In particular, he said that this part of the company is “significantly underperforming,” Insider Gaming reports.
Failed MultiVersus and Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League brought the company losses of $300 million in 2024 alone. Due to unsuccessful experiments, Warner Bros. Games will continue to focus on its main franchises – Mortal Kombat, Hogwarts Legacy, Game of Thrones, and DC, or more specifically, Batman.
“I think we’re through some of the worst — and it hasn’t been pretty — on the gaming business. But we have four games that are really powerful and have a real constituency that love them, and we’re going to focus on those four primarily. We’re going to go away from trying to launch 10, 12, 15, 20 different games. I think we have a real chance now with focus to have the gaming business be steadier. He added: “We have four strong and profitable game franchises with loyal, global fans: Hogwarts Legacy, Mortal Kombat, Game of Thrones, and DC, in particular, Batman. We are focusing our development efforts on those core franchises, with proven studios to improve our success ratio,” Zaslav said.
Now the company continues to develop Mortalk Kombat and plans to release a new update with the Ghostface character, which is due out on November 26, 2024. In addition, Monolith is working on a Wonder Woman game, and rumors are circulating around Rocksteady about the studio’s return to Batman games. Unfortunately, there are no more details about new projects from Warner Bros. Games is not yet available. There were also rumors about Hogwarts Legacy 2, which, if released, will not be released until 2027.
