It seems that following Huawei, Samsung may also release a triple-folding smartphone. It may debut as early as 2025, according to ZDNet Korea.
According to the report, Samsung already has the technology to do so. In addition, the company’s supply chain is ready to launch a new product. However, the final decision is made by the MX (Mobile eXperience) division, which is responsible for foldable smartphones.
By the way, the report also says that Samsung has reduced orders for foldable OLED panels by more than 10% as demand for Galaxy Fold 6 and Galaxy Flip 6 did not meet expectations.
In 2024, Samsung Display’s shipments of foldable OLED panels will total 12 million, down 40% from 20 million last year. This includes screens for Galaxy products and other companies. For example, Xiaomi, vivo, and OPPO.
In particular, the Galaxy Fold 6 and Galaxy Flip 6 accounted for about 8 million units, which is less than the 10 million sales forecast. The trend of sales of all devices, both new and old, is declining from year to year. The report suggests that Samsung may try to combat the decline in sales by reducing the price of the Galaxy Flip, making this form factor accessible to a wider audience.
