Qualcomm introduces Snapdragon 8 Elite, a flagship mobile chipset designed for the next generation of Android devices. The chips borrowed not only new branding but also new Oryon cores from the “laptop” Snapdragon X Elite.
Snapdragon 8 Elite consists of two main cores (maximum frequency 4.32 GHz) and six performance cores (maximum frequency 3.53 GHz). The chip also features an X80 5G modem and an Adreno 830 GPU with a new architecture consisting of separate units, each with its own memory.
The company claims that Oryon cores provide a 45% increase in performance, a 44% increase in energy efficiency, and the largest shared data cache in the mobile industry. Adreno also delivers 40% more performance and 40% more efficiency. The overall system energy savings are 27%.
The chipset also features the Hexagon NPU, which is 45% more powerful and 45% more energy efficient. New artificial intelligence features will allow you to remove unwanted objects from video, and Insight AI will help retouch skin and sky in real time to create more natural colors and lighting in unstable conditions.
For the first time, mobile devices will have support for Unreal Engine 5’s Nanite solution. And support for the Chaos Physics Engine from Unreal will provide realistic object interaction and simulation even in complex scenes.
The Snapdragon 8 Elite also supports Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, and UWB (Ultra-wideband) technology. It is a competitor to the MediaTek Dimensity 9400.
The first smartphones with the Snapdragon 8 Elite chip will be available in the coming days.
