MediaTek, as promised, held an event where it announced a new mobile flagship processor – Dimensity 9400. It is the successor to the Dimensity 9300 chip, which debuted at the end of 2023.

Dimensity 9400 utilizes the second generation All Big Core design. It features a powerful 3.62 GHz Arm Cortex-X925 core, which is combined with three Cortex-X4 cores and four Cortex-A720 cores. This configuration provides 35% faster single-core and 28% faster multi-core performance compared to Dimensity 9300. The chip is based on TSMC’s second-generation 3nm process technology. As a result, Dimensity 9400 is 40% more energy efficient.

One of the highlights of the Dimensity 9400 is its 8th Generation NPU module, which introduces a number of innovative AI generation solutions for the first time in the industry. It is the first mobile chipset to support LoRA on-device training and on-device video generation. The new Dimensity Agentic AI Engine (DAE) transforms traditional AI applications into sophisticated AI agents, offering up to 80% faster performance when working with large language models (LLMs) and 35% more power efficiency.

The Dimensity 9400 promises an enhanced gaming experience thanks to the 12-core Arm Immortalis-G925 GPU, which delivers 40% faster ray tracing than its predecessor.

The new processor is also equipped with the Imagiq 1090 ISP module, which supports HDR video recording over the entire zoom range. Smooth Zoom technology makes it easy to capture moving subjects and reduces power consumption by up to 14% when shooting 4K (60 fps) video. The chip supports a maximum camera sensor resolution of 320 MP and 8K (60 fps) video recording.

In terms of connectivity, the Dimensity 9400 has an updated 3GPP Release-17 5G modem with 4CC-CA support, which provides data rates of up to 7 Gbps at frequencies up to 6 GHz. It also features a new 4nm combined Wi-Fi/Bluetooth chip with 7.3 Gbps data rates and support for tri-band Wi-Fi MLO 7. MediaTek Xtra RangeTM 3.0 extends Wi-Fi coverage up to 30 meters.

The first devices based on MediaTek Dimensity 9400 will be available by the end of 2024.
