According to some Apple employees, the company is two years behind its competitors in the field of AI

In late October, Apple will release the first set of Apple Intelligence features. Despite this, some employees believe that the company is two years behind in the field of artificial intelligence. This is stated in a new Bloomberg report by well-known insider Mark Gurman.

On October 28, iOS 18.1 update will be released, which, among other things, will add an updated Siri voice assistant, which, although it should become smarter, will still be inferior to OpenAI solutions. Gurman notes that ChatGPT will provide 25% more accurate answers and be able to answer 30% more questions than Siri.

In addition, some Apple employees believe that the company’s generative artificial intelligence is currently two years behind the industry leaders’ offerings. However, according to Gurman, sooner or later, the company will be able to catch up with competitors through its own developments, new specialists, or through the acquisition of technologies or other companies.

In addition, Gurman also notes that one of Apple’s biggest advantages is the large number of active devices, including those capable of supporting Apple Intelligence. At the time of the announcement in June, AI was supported on only a few devices. However, the company has now introduced many updates to its products, such as the new iPhone 16, iPad, and Mac, which have been given enough power to run AI functions.

This set of proprietary products that the company can quickly update will put Apple’s competitors, such as Samsung and Google, at a disadvantage.

However, these are still only theoretical plans for the future and now Apple is in the role of catching up. The main marketing ploy for the new devices was the Apple Intelligence features. However, the company will need a lot of time to release everything promised. Some features will appear closer to March 2025.
