Apple recently updated the iPad Mini, which received the A17 Pro chip. It turns out that this is not exactly the same processor as in the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max.

According to the manufacturer’s official website, the A17 Pro for iPad Mini comes with a 5-core GPU. For comparison, the iPhone version has a 6-core processor.

These stripped-down chipsets are often called rejects because they don’t go through the same quality control process during production. It is possible that the version with a 6-core processor and a 5-core GPU was not powerful enough for the iPhone, but there were plenty of them to install in the new iPad Mini.

Despite the slightly reduced specifications, the A17 Pro in the iPad Mini will still work well. The tablet should also support Apple Intelligence with iOS 18.1 at launch.
