Meta has started laying off employees in various divisions, including WhatsApp, Instagram, and Reality Labs. This is reported by The Verge, citing people familiar with the matter.

Instead of massive layoffs across the company, these small cuts seem to coincide with the reorganization of specific teams.

According to the publication, some Meta employees have begun posting messages that they have been fired. Among them is Jane Manchun Wong, who is known for reporting unannounced features in apps.

“Today, a few teams at Meta are making changes to ensure resources are aligned with their long-term strategic goals and location strategy,” company spokesperson Dave Arnold said

According to him, this includes moving some teams to other locations, as well as transferring some employees to other positions.

“In situations like this when a role is eliminated, we work hard to find other opportunities for impacted employees,” He noted.

The new round of layoffs follows a small series of job cuts at Reality Labs earlier this year.

As a reminder, Meta laid off 11 thousand employees in 2022. Then the company announced the layoffs of another 10 thousand people as part of the “year of efficiency” announced by CEO Mark Zuckerberg last year.
