OpenAI has announced the completion of its long-awaited funding round. The company was able to raise $6.6 billion, which values the ChatGPT manufacturer at $157 billion. This is reported by AXIOS.
The record funding round was predictably led by Thrive Capital. It was also joined by Microsoft, NVIDIA, SoftBank, Khosla Ventures, Altimeter Capital, Fidelity, Tiger Global, and MGX.
According to sources, Apple did not participate in the deal, although it was reportedly in talks to invest.
“The new funding will allow us to double down on our leadership in frontier AI research, increase compute capacity, and continue building tools that help people solve hard problems,” noted at OpenAI.
At the end of August 2024, it became known that OpenAI was approaching a deal that would value the company at more than $100 billion. According to informed sources, OpenAI’s CFO Sarah Friar told employees in a memo that the company was looking for new capital.
