Laptops with chips from Intel and AMD will soon have the features of Microsoft’s Copilot+ computers with artificial intelligence support. The first such laptops will start appearing in November 2024. This was reported by The Verge.
While AMD already has laptops that can support Microsoft’s AI features, Intel has just introduced Intel Core Ultra 200V processors, also known as Lunar Lake, that will be able to receive the update.
Microsoft previously reported that computers with Intel Lunar Lake and AMD Strix Point chips will receive a free update with Copilot+ features in the future, but without exact dates.
The company has now officially announced that this update will be released in November and that some selected features will be available to Windows Insider program members first.
Among the features available on Copilot+ computers is Auto SR technology, a DLSS competitor that aims to improve the image quality of games and increase their performance. Other features include image generation in Microsoft Paint with Cocreator, an updated Windows Studio Effects that improves webcam image and sound quality, and the ability to better utilize NPU chips for other AI tasks.
Soon, these computers will also get the controversial Recall feature, which takes screenshots of all user activity on a computer so that you can easily find a website, chat room, or file later. Testing among Windows Insider members will begin in October.
As a reminder, all of these features are currently only supported on Snapdragon X Elite computers, and the most affordable device starts at $999. Recently, it was also reported that in addition to computers with Intel and AMD processors, cheaper models with the Snapdragon X Plus processor will soon be available.
