Human Mobile Devices has unveiled a Barbie-style folding phone that was developed in collaboration with Mattel. The device is called HMD Barbie Phone and will go on sale today, August 28, 2024.
According to HMD, the new phone creates a sense of nostalgia and adds humor to the everyday life of its owners. In addition, the development allows you to take a break from the Internet and smartphones.
“The adorable phone features a retro design with calls, texts and no social media – perfect for taking a smartphone break,” HMD said in a statement. “The flip phone brings back the joy of simpler, sweeter days. Call your besties, set up a catch-up date, and text them the meeting spot”.
According to the description, the new phone is equipped with a 2.8-inch main display (320×240 pixels) and a 1.77-inch display (160×120 pixels) on the external panel. The new device has a Unisoc T107 processor, 64 MB of RAM, and up to 128 MB of storage. The memory can also be expanded via a 32 GB microSD card.
The HMD Barbie Phone has a 1,450 mAh battery, a VGA camera (0.3 MP), a Bluetooth 5.0 wireless module, a USB Type-C connector, and a 3.5 mm jack for classic wired headphones.
The phone runs on the S30+ operating system. It weighs 123.5 grams and has dimensions of 201×55.1×10.9 mm when open and 108.4×55.1×18.9 mm when closed. It comes with two interchangeable back covers, a pink USB-C cable, a pink removable battery, a bead and pendant lanyard, a napkin, and stickers.
“This phone encourages you to ditch your smartphone in times when you just want less browsing and more fun, all with the help of a true cultural icon, Barbie,” said Lars Silberbauer, Global Marketing Director at HMD.
In February 2024, it became known that HMD would release a Barbie-style folding phone.
