Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta, said that during the pandemic, the US government “pressured” Facebook to censor COVID-19-related content. This was reported by Bloomberg.

“In 2021, senior officials from the Biden Administration, including the White House, repeatedly pressured our teams for months to censor certain COVID-19 content, including humor and satire,” he wrote in a letter to the House Judiciary Committee.

At the same time, Mark Zuckerberg noted that he regretted the company’s decision to agree to these demands.

“…the government pressure was wrong, and I regret that we were not more outspoken about it,” added the CEO of Meta.

During the pandemic, Facebook employees incurred the wrath of critics of lockdowns and vaccinations as they removed certain posts, claiming that they contained misinformation about the virus, among other things. In total, Facebook has removed more than 20 million pieces of content in over a year.
