Elon Musk’s xAI has unveiled the second-generation beta version of Grok. The artificial intelligence-based chatbot is currently available only to Premium and Premium+ subscribers of the X social network. This was reported by TechCrunch.

The Grok-2 and Grok-2 mini versions are now available to subscription holders. The company also plans to make both models available to developers later this month via the corporate API.

“We are excited to release an early preview of Grok-2, a significant step forward from our previous model Grok-1.5, featuring frontier capabilities in chat, coding, and reasoning. At the same time, we are introducing Grok-2 mini, a small but capable sibling of Grok-2,” said xAI.

One of the features of the chatbot is that it can now generate images. However, judging by users’ attempts, the feature has no restrictions on creating images of political figures.

Given the US presidential campaign, xAI may still face pressure to introduce restrictions. But so far, there are none, and people are taking advantage of it.

The situation may also be exacerbated by the fact that it is currently unclear whether AI-generated images contain metadata that would indicate their artificial origin.

Last year, xAI launched its own version of ChatGPT. The AI-based chatbot was named Grok and was initially available to a limited group of users in the US for beta testing. Among the features of Grok is that it has access to real-time information via the X social network.
