The World Federation of Advertisers (WFA) has announced that it is terminating the Global Alliance for Responsible Media (GARM). This was reported by CNBC.

The announcement came a few days after Elon Musk’s X lawsuit against advertisers over the platform’s boycott became known. The antitrust lawsuit was first reported by X CEO Linda Yaccarino.

In a post dated August 6, 2024, the CEO said that X is suing the WFA, GARM, and alliance members CVS Health, Mars, Orsted, and Unilever.

According to Linda Yaccarino, X decided to go to court after a recent report by the US House Judiciary Committee, which cited “evidence of an illegal boycott” of many companies, including X, by GARM and its members.

Elon Musk shared CEO X’s post and called the situation a “war.”

Now, Linda Yaccarino says that GARM’s suspension is “an important recognition and a necessary step in the right direction.”

“I am hopeful that it means ecosystem-wide reform is coming,” she wrote in a new post on the platform.

The non-profit organization GARM was created in 2019, in part, to help advertisers avoid showing their ad campaigns alongside content they consider harmful.

Last year, the Media Matters organization released a report showing that brand ads appeared on the platform next to pro-Nazi content. The information caused a major scandal, and companies began to withdraw their corporate advertising on X.

After that, X accused Media Matters of defamation and sued it. However, the situation with advertisers escalated when Elon Musk soon told those who stopped working with X to go fuck themselves.
