Over the past few years, YouTube has been consistently trying to fight ad blockers by implementing various measures, such as slowing down the service, restricting the ability to watch videos, or banning third-party applications that block ads.
According to Android Authority, the company has now taken additional measures. Users on Reddit are starting to complain that with the ad blocker enabled, they get a black screen before the video starts, which lasts from 6 to 20 seconds.
Most likely, these short black screens are just ads that are not displayed due to blockers, but are not skipped as they used to be. Probably, browser extensions now block the display of ad content, but not its presence.
So far, YouTube has not commented on this situation. However, despite the absence of a public statement, it was previously reported that the company is preparing server-side ad embedding in videos, which is intended to complicate the work of blockers.
