Ukrainian developer Ternox, the author of the successful STONKS-9800 game, announced the start of Ukrainian Visual Novel Jam #5 and its theme, Wings.
“Wings symbolize freedom and dreams. The ability to rise above everyday life, leave all the problems behind and feel true freedom. Wings can symbolize transformation and development or escape from a cage. As always, the theme is open to interpretation,” the statement reads.
The main change in the rules of the Ukrainian Visual Novel Jam is that now developers can use all the assets (resources, i.e. sprites, sounds, music) to which they have the right to use. That is, purchased, free, or previously drawn.
As before, Ternox, which has been organizing and funding Ukrainian Visual Novel Jam competitions for over 2 years, donates 1000 UAH to the Come Back Alive fund for each game submitted that meets the jam’s rules and conditions.
We offer prizes in the amount of 5000 UAH to the developer’s account or to any fund of their choice for the 1st-5th places taken at the end of the jam in the “Overall Impression” category. Plus, 5000 UAH will be awarded to the “perfect short story”, the 1st place in the sum of all evaluation categories, and the game must have its own graphics, music, and other resources.
In addition, Ternox, which also acts as a publisher after the success of STONKS-9800, will select one or more promising projects of its choice and provide them with an additional 5000 UAH and an offer for publication with an English translation. It looks like there will soon be even more Ukrainian visual novels on Steam.
The competition closing date is July 28.
The visual novels There Was a Shine On, My Little Sun and Kami: Parade of Senses, which were created for the Ukrainian Visual Novel Jam, are already being prepared for release on Steam.
