The NDA period for the disclosure of the results of testing the capabilities of the new GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER 16 GB graphics cards has just expired. The full technical specifications of the adapter were made public during the official announcement, but the actual performance in games and their comparison with those of neighboring models in the series and direct competitors is of particular interest.

GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER info

The results of the first reviews of the base models of GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER 16 GB are already available online, with a recommended price identical to the one announced by NVIDIA – $799. As an example, let’s use the figures obtained by our colleagues from TechPowerUp during testing of the ASUS TUF Gaming GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER 16GB GDDR6X model.

GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER performance 1080p

In 1080p mode, the upgraded GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER 16 GB received a moderate acceleration. Under these conditions, the new product was on average 6% faster than the base GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 12 GB model. At the same time, the video card is 9% slower than the GeForce RTX 4080 16 GB. The confrontation between the new product and its direct competitor, the Radeon RX 7900 XT 20 GB, is interesting. As you can see, in terms of average performance, GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER 16 GB is on par with AMD’s solution – the difference is within 1%.

(GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER performance 1440p

The limited memory capacity of the classic GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 12GB has always caused a lot of complaints among users who use 1440p mode at maximum settings. Twelve gigabytes is no longer always enough for such conditions, especially if you don’t want to compromise on graphics quality. As you can see, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER 16 GB also proved to be a good upgrade here. In addition to the direct increase in capacity from 12 GB to 16 GB, the bit rate of the data bus between the GPU and DRAM has also increased from 192 bits to 256 bits, and the total memory bandwidth has increased from 504 GB/s to 672 GB/s (+33%). Together with the increase in the number of computers, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER 16 GB improved the results of the launch RTX 4070 Ti by 8%, although it still lacks 12% of the performance of the older RTX 4080 model.

GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER test results: is everything finally right?

NVIDIA positions the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER as a solution specifically for 1440p, which allows you to “load” screens with an increased refresh rate (144+ Hz) in this mode. Indeed, according to the results of a benchmark test by colleagues, the model is able to provide an average of 138 fps with the maximum quality setting. Of course, this is a generalized indicator, reminiscent of the “average temperature in a hospital,” but in general it allows you to determine the category of the video card.

GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER performance 4K

With the increase in memory capacity to 16 GB, the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER model is now allowed to experiment with 4K without any reservations. The tangible increase in bandwidth is especially noticeable in such conditions. Here, the gap with RTX 4070 Ti increases to 11%. The RTX 4080 still lacks as much as 15%, but it should be recalled that the latter was once presented with a recommended price tag of $1199, while GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER is one and a half times cheaper. Decent competition can be seen in the confrontation with the Radeon RX 7900 XT: in certain projects, one model has an advantage, in others, the other. As a result, Radeon RX 7900 XT is 2% ahead. It is not surprising that after NVIDIA’s announcement, AMD decided to reduce the recommended price of its “pre-top” from $899 to $749.

In modes with ray tracing activated, everything is already quite predictable and without surprises. The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER falls in between the RTX 4070 Ti and RTX 4080, and the Radeon RX 7900 XT is about 25% behind the new NVIDIA model in these conditions.

GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER test results: is everything finally right?

The power consumption situation is interesting. Somehow, NVIDIA managed to keep the performance of the base model GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 12 GB for the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER 16 GB, despite the fact that the latter has more memory chips, bus bit depth, and even uses the more bulky AD103 chip instead of AD104. At least the developers claimed that the TBP would not change and would remain within 285 watts. They almost succeeded. During gaming tests, ASUS’ GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER 16 GB consumed up to 292 watts, while the base RTX 4070 Ti consumed 277 W. Still, an additional 15 watts were needed. In turn, the Radeon RX 7900 XT 20 GB required 312 W under identical conditions, which is another 20 W more.
