During CES 2024, NVIDIA officially expanded its line of desktop graphics cards by introducing GeForce RTX 40 SUPER series graphics adapters – GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER, GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER, and GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER. This time, the developers failed to keep the intrigue alive until the very beginning of the sales of the new products – numerous leaks allowed us to learn about the technical specifications, the time of availability and even the recommended prices of the graphics cards. In fact, NVIDIA confirmed the information.

So, the GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER 16 GB gets a GPU with a slightly increased number of cores, as well as higher operating frequencies of the GPU and memory chips. Compared to the performance of the base version of GeForce RTX 4080 16 GB, a significant performance increase is not expected (preliminary ~5-7%), but the overall performance is certainly very good. NVIDIA compares the capabilities of the new product with those of previous generations, and in such a confrontation, the difference is certainly impressive. Especially when using DLSS 3 with Frame Generation technology, which is not supported by adapters of previous generations.

In the case of the GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER 16 GB, the recommended price of $999 was somewhat unexpected. Especially compared to $1199 for the base version of GeForce RTX 4080. So we can see that a rather powerful solution has appeared in the graphics top end and is now competing with the Radeon RX 7900 XTX 24 GB. However, we’d like to draw your attention to the fact that GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER will go on sale on January 31, which is a bit later than the younger models of the SUPER line.

The GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER model is potentially very interesting. The video card has a new GPU with a significantly increased number of processing units and related functional units. In addition, this version finally received a 16 GB buffer, instead of the 12 GB of the GeForce RTX 4070 Ti. It was the total memory capacity that caused the most complaints about the base version. And this attitude was quite fair, given the positioning and price tag of the Ti version. With the increase in memory capacity, the bus bit rate has obviously increased (256 instead of 192 bits), and accordingly, the overall bandwidth. In total, we expect a 15% performance increase, and accordingly, the performance of GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER should be close to that of GeForce RTX 4080.

NVIDIA is positioning GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER as a solution for gaming in 1440p mode with an increased refresh rate (144+ Hz). The developers have kept the price tag of the new product at the same level as for the regular Ti version – $799. The competition in this class is heating up, so AMD will probably have to revise the price of Radeon RX 7900 XT. We will see the real balance of power of these opponents on January 24, when GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER starts selling and the NDA for the publication of independent reviews expires.

Another new product is the GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER 12 GB. The main changes here are an increase in the number of CUDA computers by more than 20% and a minimal increase in the base operating frequency. The configuration of the memory subsystem remains unchanged. The developers assure that after the upgrade, GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER will be faster than GeForce RTX 3090 in some cases. Obviously, this refers to games with DLSS 3, which is not supported on previous generations of solutions. GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER 12 GB will go on sale faster than the older models – on January 17. At that time, all questions about its real capabilities will be cleared up.

NVIDIA has officially announced GeForce RTX 40 SUPER graphics cards

As for the rest of the GeForce RTX 40 graphics lineup, it will undergo some changes. The series is headed by the GeForce RTX 4090 24GB with an unchanged price tag of $1599. It is an ultimatum solution for 4K and AI work. In the cohort of the most powerful models, it will be joined by the GeForce RTX 4080 SUPER 16 GB for $999.

Among the solutions for 1440p gaming, the following quartet is offered: GeForce RTX 4070 Ti SUPER 16 GB ($799), GeForce RTX 4070 SUPER 12 GB ($599), and GeForce RTX 4070 12 GB, the price of which will officially drop by $50 to $549 after the release of SUPER versions.

More affordable solutions include the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti 8GB for $399 and the GeForce RTX 4060 8GB for $299. The slide does not yet mention the 16 GB version of the GeForce RTX 4060 Ti, which has recently had a competitor. Perhaps this will also affect the pricing of the modification with double the memory capacity.

Attentive readers will have also noticed the absence of GeForce RTX 4070 Ti 12GB and GeForce RTX 4080 16GB in the list. This is no coincidence. With the advent of SUPER versions with their price points, there is no room for the basic versions in the current lineup, so their active life cycle will be terminated. New models replace their predecessors.
