Google CEO Sundar Pichai has advised the company’s employees to prepare for new layoffs in 2024. This is stated in an internal message to employees, according to The Verge.

“We have ambitious goals and will be investing in our big priorities this year,” Google CEO said in a statement. “The reality is that to create the capacity for this investment, we have to make tough choices.”

So far, these “hard decisions” have included layoffs and reorganization in the hardware and augmented reality (AR) teams, as well as in the central engineering team. This was announced by the tech giant recently.

At the same time, Sundar Pichai noted that these cuts are not as large as last year’s and will not affect every Google team. However, he added that we should expect more layoffs in the future.

“Many of these changes are already announced, though to be upfront, some teams will continue to make specific resource allocation decisions throughout the year where needed, and some roles may be impacted,” Sundar Pichai wrote.

Last January, it became known that Google was laying off 12 thousand employees. Among the reasons for this decision was “a different economic reality.”
