When it comes to portable gaming consoles, the Steam Deck, ROG Ally, and similar competitors come to mind. However, with a little free time and inspiration, even a Sony PlayStation 5 can be turned into an original gaming tablet.

YouTuber Matthew Perks demonstrated his own view on the DIY Perks channel.

Given that most of Sony’s latest console actually consists of a massive case, a sizable cooling system, a Blu-ray drive, and a power supply, and the main board is quite small, the enthusiast decided to try to fit it into a smaller case.

Of course, this solution required a more compact cooling system in the first place. With a couple of tries, Mr. Perks was able to find the right configuration of six pipes and two radiators. The active part of the cooling system was three fans designed to cool laptops.

After successful testing, it all had to be placed in a suitable case. The YouTuber used a 3D printer for this purpose. The custom solution was relatively stylized to match the main theme of the original. Moreover, there was even room for speakers and separate subwoofers in this case.

Mr. Perks adapted a small leg to support the entire body.

The “tablet” also received a display from laptops. And it’s a pretty good one at that. The YouTuber “borrowed” the OLED matrix from an Alienware gaming laptop. Of course, the space for it was calculated in the case in advance, and a separate carbon panel was developed to support it. That’s it, the device is assembled.

However, power supply remained a problem. Even though Mr. Perks has come up with a pretty neat solution here, an external power supply still needs to be plugged into an outlet. In fact, this is the only thing that hindered the tablet’s portability.

However, it is still quite interesting to watch the process of developing such a solution:
