As early as tomorrow Samsung will officially show the updated flagship Galaxy S24 lineup, which will traditionally consist of three smartphones – Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra. And the closer we get to the event itself, the more insights we get the day before.

The new details are reported by GSM Arena with reference to Android Headlines.

Thus, according to updated data, Samsung Galaxy S24 devices will be provided with Android OS updates over the next seven years. Thus, smartphones will remain up-to-date for a long time. Google has the same plan with its new Pixel models.

And if we draw an analogy with the Apple iPhone, we should expect that over time, smartphones will not have all the features of new OS versions, but will still be provided with security patches and support some of the new features.

It’s also no secret that Samsung will place a considerable emphasis on artificial intelligence functions in its new smartphones (the announcement was accompanied by a large Galaxy AI inscription). We have a little more than a day to wait for all the details, but according to preliminary information from insiders, there will be a relatively unexpected twist.

It means that certain AI functions will be free of charge at least until 2025. That is, over time, the company may introduce subscriptions to some AI-related services. Of course, this may be a preliminary plan that will change over time (similar stories have already happened, for example, with automakers that subscribed to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto support, which car owners were very unhappy about).

It can also be assumed that users of AI services with subscriptions will have certain advantages, as is the case with ChatGPT or Copilot.

Finally, the insiders also showed several images of future smartphones. Among other things, there are a couple of interesting slides that demonstrate the camera resolution of new smartphones and their main functions.

So, Samsung Galaxy S24 and Galaxy S24+ will have three main cameras: a wide-angle 50 MP sensor with 2x optical zoom, a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor, and another 10-megapixel sensor with 3x optical zoom. It’s worth noting that in the case of the telephoto, Optical Zoom is indicated, while the main sensor has Optical Quality Zoom. That is, most likely, we are talking about digital zoom, but with the appropriate quality. The resolution of the front camera will be 12 MP.

The Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra has the same front-facing camera, but the rear camera is, of course, a more powerful set. There is also a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle sensor, but the main wide-angle sensor is much more interesting – 200 MP. And the latter should also provide 2× Optical Quality Zoom. Additionally, there are two more telephoto sensors: 50 MP (5× Optical Zoom and 10× Optical Quality Zoom), and 10 MP (3× Optical Zoom).

We can already assume that a large share of the new AI features will be aimed at improving photos and videos. Not that they didn’t exist before, but given the recent boom in AI services, Galaxy AI capabilities will indeed be the centerpiece of the update tomorrow.

Let me remind you that the Galaxy Unpacked 2024 presentation will be broadcast on January 17 at 20:00 (Kyiv time) on the Samsung Ukraine YouTube channel, Facebook and Instagram.
