Android 15 may bring back the ability to add widgets to the lock screen. This feature was removed in version 5 of the operating system, writes Android Authority.

In beta 14 of QPR2 Beta 3, we found a potential opportunity to implement these widgets. This is a separate space that users can open with a swipe to the left and customize everything they need.

Android Authority was able to access this feature on the Pixel Tablet and shared some screenshots.

Currently, this feature is still in the works and only widgets from Google Calendar, Clock, Search, and other apps can be added. Other developers will need to add the KEYGUARD category to their widgets to make it work.

So far, only tablets have been able to access this feature, so potentially the functionality of widgets on locked screens may be limited to larger devices. However, it should be understood that this is still a work in progress, and we may not see the final result until the release of Android 15.

Another potential implementation of widgets could be their addition to At a Glance. This may be similar to what Apple did with widgets in iOS 16. However, nothing is known about this potential implementation yet.
