The consulting company Deloitte hopes that artificial intelligence will help optimize human resources management, reports Bloomberg.

This year, the giants of the consulting world have faced an unusual problem: many of them are in the process of laying off hundreds of employees even after hiring thousands of college graduates to cope with the new demand.

Deloitte hopes that AI will help change this situation. The company uses the technology to assess the skills of employees and develop plans to redeploy them to more in-demand positions.

All of this is part of the company’s hope that technology will allow it to curb the growth in the number of employees over time.

This comes after Deloitte increased its staff by 130,000 this year. At the same time, it was forced to warn thousands of employees in the United States and the United Kingdom about possible job cuts due to restructuring.

“It is obviously a great objective to be able to avoid large swings of hirings and layoffs,” said Stevan Rolls, global chief talent officer at Deloitte. “You could always be more efficient and effective about finding the right people.”

The total number of Deloitte employees is now approaching 460 thousand. This is three times more than a decade ago, when the company’s revenue was about half of what it is today.
