Embracer Group, which in 2023 was the third largest company in the gaming industry by the number of laid-off employees, is rapidly moving to the first position after new layoffs at 3D Realms and Slipgate Ironworks studios.

As reported by EuroGamer, employees of both studios started writing about their dismissal on social media. Scott Miller, one of the founders of 3D Realms, who hasn’t been a part of the studio for several years, wrote in X wrote the following:

“Several sources have told me this bad news… Sorry to hear about another drop of the axe by Embracer Group, this time landing on Danish 3D Realms. A lot of people, including core devs, will be looking for work asap. Hopefully they land jobs soon. This one hits me hard because I worked with the new 3DR from 2014 up until when they were bought out by Embracer 2.5 yrs ago.”

In addition to him, many developers who were affected by this layoff also began to share the sad news on their social networks. For example, level and sound designer Michael Markey wrote: “I got laid off on Christmas Day this year!”.

The exact number of employees affected by the new layoffs is currently unknown. Embracer did not comment on the news.
