EXODUS – a new sci-fi saga from former BioWare employees

EXODUS – is a science fiction role-playing game from Archetype Entertainment, a studio founded by former BioWare employees. They are going to create the best fantasy RPG of all time. And there is a chance that they will succeed.

Because Archetype Entertainment is headed by James Olen, a man who worked for BioWare for 22 years as a lead designer and creative director of such games as Baldur’s Gate (1998), Baldur’s Gate: Tales of the Sword Coast (1999), Baldur’s Gate II: Shadows of Amn (2000), Neverwinter Nights (2002), Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic (2003), Dragon Age: Origins (2009) and Star Wars: The Old Republic (2011). In addition, Olen worked on the first Mass Effect (2007).

And the lead writer of Archetype Entertainment is Drew Karpyshyn, the chief writer of Mass Effect (2007) and Mass Effect 2 (2010), author of Mass Effect (actually quite good) and Star Wars novels.

Archetype Entertainment was established in 2019 as a division of Wizards of the Coast, owners of the Dungeons & Dragons and Magic: The Gathering, in Austin, Texas, the same place where one of BioWare’s studios is located. Naturally, many of BioWare’s employees went to work for Olen and Karpyshyn.

In EXODUS, humanity has left the dying Earth and found a new home in a hostile galaxy. Here, Earth’s outsiders are fighting for survival. The player character is one of the Travelers, the last hope of humanity. Their task is to steal alien weapons and technology from the most powerful beings in the universe, the Celestials, humanity’s greatest enemy. But there is a problem – time dilation. Days for the Traveler in interstellar missions turn into decades at home. The main feature of the game is that the player will be able to feel the consequences of the choices he made decades later. The EXODUS story trailer is dedicated to these consequences.

One of the game’s characters will be voiced by the famous actor Matthew McConaughey. EXODUS is being developed for PlayStation 5, XBOX Series X|S and Windows PC. The game has no release date yet.

Recently, BioWare presented a teaser of the next Mass Effect game. I wonder who will be the first to get there, BioWare or ex-BioWare?!
