The American company NVIDIA intends to meet the extremely high demand for AI chips in Japan. This was stated by the manufacturer’s CEO Jensen Huang during a visit to this country, writes Reuters.

“Demand is very high, but I promised the prime minister we will do our very, very best to prioritise Japan’s requirements for GPUs,” he told reporters at the official residence of Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida in Tokyo.

This visit took place shortly after Japan adopted a supplementary budget that includes about $13.6 billion for the development of the semiconductor industry.

“The semiconductor industry that Japan is now starting to develop and stimulate will be capable of producing GPUs,” NVIDIA CEO added.

NVIDIA recently informed customers in China that it is postponing until early 2024 the release of a new AI chip that the company developed to comply with US export restrictions. According to sources, it is the H20 chip. The product was supposed to appear on November 16, but now it will potentially happen in the first quarter of next year.
