The Honda brand is preparing for large-scale changes and updates in Ukraine: two important new products are due to arrive here by the end of the year! A pair of new crossovers, the Honda CR-V and Honda ZR-V, can significantly affect Honda’s position in Ukraine and help increase sales. But thanks to what? What do they have to offer? Let me tell you…
Honda CR-V crossover: a bestseller in the sixth generation
The Honda CR-V has been popular since its debut back in the mid-1990s. More than a quarter of a century has passed, and now the Honda CR-V crossover is opening its sixth chapter in its history. It is interesting that with the debut of the sixth generation Honda CR-V, the car has not only changed externally, but also significantly increased in size: plus more than 10 cm in length!
A new crossover Honda CR–V has changed visually: a flat and almost horizontal hood, narrow headlights and three-section headlamps, and a large radiator grille. In addition to the new design, the sixth generation of Honda CR–V also offers new dimensions – the length has crossed 4.7 meters, the wheelbase has reached 2.7 meters. Under the hood of a new car Honda CR–V a familiar hybrid was installed.
We are talking about the Honda CR-V e:HEV version, which is based on an atmospheric 2-liter gasoline engine and an electric motor. Moreover, the design of modern Honda hybrids is such that the electric motor is the main one, so we focus on its power and torque indicators: 184 hp and 335 Nm.
It may not be very impressive – but in the case of a hybrid, it’s the fuel consumption figures that really should be impressive: only 2.8 liters per 100 km in the city! But on the highway or in a mixed cycle, you can no longer expect revolutions: 6.9 and 5.4-6.6 liters, respectively. Acceleration to “hundreds” is declared at 9.4 seconds, the top speed should reach 187 km/h, and the drive is all-wheel drive.
Depending on the market, the sixth-generation crossover Honda CR–V can also offer other powertrains: a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine with 193 hp or an e:PHEV version with a 17.7 kWh battery and a range of up to 82 km on electric power alone. However, only one option has been announced for Ukraine – the above-described e:HEV hybrid.
Also, there is only one Elegance trim for us. However, as for the list of equipment in this configuration, it seems that there are no restrictions at all: a bunch of driver assistance systems, leather interior, dual-zone climate control, panoramic glass roof, multimedia system with a 9-inch touchscreen display, Apple CarPlay wireless connection, 18-inch alloy wheels, etc.
The new equipment for the new Honda CR-V includes a 10.2-inch digital instrument panel and adaptive shock absorbers: I wonder how it will ride now? In addition, the list of driving modes now includes SNOW mode to the already familiar ECON and SPORT modes.
The crossover Honda CR–V is offered in one configuration Elegance but is all-inclusive: digital dashboard, leather interior, rearview camera, climate control, panorama. Price tag of the novelty Honda CR–V also one – from UAH 1,999,900 or $53 thousand.
A new Honda CR-V crossover is expected in Ukraine by the very end of this year, with the first batches of cars expected to arrive in December.
Honda ZR-V crossover: new name, new class?
In fact, the Honda ZR-V may appear in Ukraine a little earlier, as it is expected to arrive here by the end of this month. Have you heard of this car? Here’s a simple and clear positioning: the Honda ZR-V crossover in the European market is an intermediate link between the Honda CR-V and Honda HR-V.
Offering a body length of 4.57 meters and a wheelbase of 2.66 meters, the crossoverHonda ZR–V takes a position clearly between the cars Honda CR–V (larger) and Honda HR–V (smaller). Interestingly, depending on the configuration, the appearance changes slightly: the front bumper, radiator grille, wheel rims, etc. White car Honda ZR–V is presented in the Elegance configuration, the blue car is a Sport configuration. However, in any case, there will be a 2-liter hybrid e:HEV under the hood.
And this is also another confirmation of the “intermediate” position of the new Honda ZR-V in relation to the other two already known models. After all, the hybrid system of the new Honda ZR-V is built using a 2-liter atmospheric engine, and there is a powerful electric motor (184 hp and 315 Nm) – that is, everything is similar to the Honda CR-V. At the same time, the Honda ZR-V has only front-wheel drive, which is similar to the Honda HR-V.
Good dynamics are promised: acceleration to “hundred” in 7.8 seconds and 173 km/h top speed. And even more impressive fuel consumption figures are also promised: only 2.4 liters per 100 kilometers in the city. But what will it really be like? We will check later, when the first Honda ZR-V cars arrive in Ukraine. By the way, they should arrive in the Elegance package.
However, this is the case when one Elegance is different from the other.” There are still plenty of airbags and even more driver assistance systems, still dual-zone climate control and adaptive cruise, still a 9-inch multimedia system display. However, the seats are now cloth upholstered and mechanically adjustable, there is no panoramic roof, and the instrument panel is based on a 7-inch display. Honda ZR–V configuration is simpler in relation to Honda CR–V; but the price is accordingly lower – from UAH 1,799,900 or $48 thousand.
So what does the future hold for these two new models in Ukraine, given their hefty price tags? Only time and sales will give an answer to this difficult question. However, I want to believe that these sales will be quite noticeable and the Honda name will get a new lease of life and a new impetus for development in our country.
