Qualcomm plans to unveil its new flagship mobile platform Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 in the coming days, but MSPowerUser has already shared the full specifications of the new processor, which it obtained from an internal company document.

Qualcomm positions Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 as the first mobile platform specifically designed for generative AI, claiming that it is the most versatile and powerful processor available.

One of the prominent features of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is its improved ray-tracing graphics, which are expected to rival the “console” graphics of the iPhone 15 Pro. Qualcomm emphasizes that Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, together with Unreal Engine 5.2, supports “unrivaled” ray tracing and can scale images up to 8K resolution.

Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 specifications have been released

Main features of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 platform from Qualcomm:

Artificial intelligence: The platform will include the Qualcomm AI Engine, which will use the Adreno GPU, Kryo CPU cores, Hexagon GPU, and a number of accelerators. The Qualcomm Sensing Hub with two microprocessors for audio and sensors will also be integrated.

CPU: The 4-nanometer Kryo processor has a 64-bit architecture with different core frequencies, including the main core, which can reach 3.3 GHz. According to Qualcomm, the new chip is 30% faster and 20% more efficient than its predecessor.

GPU: The Adreno GPU supports hardware acceleration of real-time ray tracing with global lighting and is compatible with the Unreal Engine 5 Lumen global lighting and reflections system.

5G support: The chipset is equipped with a Snapdragon X75 5G Modem-RF.

Memory: Supports up to 24 GB of LP-DDR5x memory with speeds up to 4800 MHz.

Wi-Fi та Bluetooth: FastConnect 7800 supports Wi-Fi 7 with a peak speed of 5.8 Gbps and Bluetooth 5.4.

Display: The platform supports 4K resolution at 60 Hz and QHD+ at 144 Hz, as well as external screens with resolutions up to 8K at 30 Hz or Full HD from 1 to 244 Hz.

Audio: The chip is equipped with a Qualcomm Aqstic audio codec and supports spatial sound with head tracking.

Camera: The Qualcomm Spectra image signal processor supports a triple camera system of up to 36 megapixels at 30 frames per second with zero shutter lag, a dual camera system of 64+36 megapixels at 30 frames per second with zero shutter lag, and a single camera of up to 108 megapixels at 30 frames per second with zero shutter lag. In addition, it supports 8K HDR video recording and 64MP stills at 30fps. 4K video recording is possible at 120 frames per second.

USB: USB 3.1 Gen 2 and USB Type-C are supported.

The arrival of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 will also make it easier for small manufacturers to add new capabilities to smartphones thanks to the Snapdragon Seamless feature. It allows for the creation of integrated capabilities similar to proprietary solutions such as Apple’s Airdrop or Samsung’s Galaxy Connect, but based on an open source system.
