On October 26, 2023, Ukrainian cinemas will start showing the historical drama Boudica: Queen of War starring Ukrainian actress Olga Kurylenko.

Based on real events, the film tells the story of the uprising of the Celtic tribe of the Iceni, led by Queen Boudica, against the Roman invaders in 60-61 AD. The Romans, despite their promise, took away the lands of the Iceni, slaughtered the queen, and raped her two daughters. Bowdica raised an army of 250,000 soldiers and burned the Roman cities of Camulodunum (Colchester), Londinium (London), and Verulamium. Although the Iceni eventually lost to well-trained legionnaires, Queen Boudica is still considered a symbol of British resistance to the invaders.

The director of Boudica: Queen of War, Jesse W. Johnson, does not have any films with high ratings in his portfolio, so we should not expect anything out of the ordinary. But this is a really interesting story, and it stars a Ukrainian actress, who was born in the temporarily occupied Berdiansk, in the lead role.
