It has finally arrived! The new Mitsubishi Outlander crossover is no longer just “out there in the world” but is now available in Ukraine. The car is completely new: platform, body, design, interior, equipment. But suddenly, an atmospheric engine? Well, let’s take it one step at a time…
The new Mitsubishi Outlander is really new
So, we have a fourth-generation Mitsubishi Outlander crossover. Yes, that’s right, the fourth generation: the “third” Mitsubishi Outlander once radically changed its appearance, which is why it can be mistakenly considered a next-generation car. But it is not. And I’ll even say more: The “third” Mitsubishi Outlander was built on the GS platform, which first appeared on the Mitsubishi Outlander XL (or second-generation Mitsubishi Outlander) and featured an unchanged 2.67-meter wheelbase. But now everything is completely different!
The new “fourth” Mitsubishi Outlander has been redesigned: look at the headlights in the bumper cheeks, the window sill line, or the narrow lights that almost reach the center of the trunk lid. The car also received a new platform and a new body with increased rigidity (a lot of high-strength steel was used). Finally, it is worth noting the increase in the car’s dimensions: the length has reached 4.71 meters; the width is 1.86 meters; the height is 1.74 meters; the wheelbase has stretched to 2.706 meters. Maximum configuration Mitsubishi Outlander can offer 20-inch wheels.
So, let’s get to the bottom of the new car! Although unchanged in its essence: it is a middle-class crossover, it has a load-bearing body and fully independent wheel suspensions, a transverse engine, plus a CVT variator and all-wheel drive. And the latter points are worth mentioning separately.
Atmospheric engine in times of total “turbo”
That’s right: The “fourth” Mitsubishi Outlander in the versions for Ukraine gets a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder atmospheric engine. This is a gasoline engine with the PR25DD code, which is characterized by a high compression ratio (12:1) and direct fuel injection. This engine produces 184 hp and 244 Nm of torque.
The transmission for us is also the same – a combination of a CVT variator and S-AWC all-wheel drive with several modes of operation. With this technology, the new Mitsubishi Outlander is able to accelerate to “hundreds” in 10.6 seconds and reach a maximum speed of 187 km/h. The declared level of fuel consumption in the city is 10.5 liters per 100 km, but on the highway it should be 6.8 liters per 100 km.
The new Mitsubishi Outlander received a new atmospheric 2.5-liter engine – this can be an advantage for old-timers who do not trust small turbo engines under the hoods of large cars. The engine is paired with a CVT variator and all-wheel drive with a choice of driving modes.
But won’t it turn out like with the new generation Nissan X-Trail? Let me remind you: it also started its career with a 2.5-liter “atmospheric” engine, but by the time it reached Ukraine, it had already received a 1.5-liter 3-cylinder “turbo” and hybrid-electric versions. Moreover, for other markets, the new Mitsubishi Outlander range includes a PHEV hybrid and a 1.5-liter turbo engine (but a 4-cylinder).
More space and technology inside the cabin
By the way, inside the new Mitsubishi Outlander you can also find some hints of the Nissan X-Trail: for example, a similar 3-zone climate control unit, a multimedia system, and a digital instrument panel. But in general, the interior of Mitsubishi Outlander looks original and modern. And yes – now there is a 3-zone climate control (a separate zone for rear passengers) and a fully digital instrument panel in the form of a 12.3-inch display. There’s also BOSE audio, adaptive high beams, and a panoramic glass roof. Although, of course, it all depends on the configuration. So…
The Mitsubishi Outlander in the INTENSE configuration offers: a seven-seater interior (three rows of seats), front and side airbags, side curtain airbags, a knee cushion, a power trunk lid with touch opening, a multimedia system with an 8-inch display, a rearview camera, cruise control, three-zone climate, LED headlights, 18-inch alloy wheels, etc. Price of Mitsubishi Outlander 2.5 CVT 4WD INTENSE – from UAH 1.75 million or $45.8 thousand.
One level higher is the ULTIMATE package, which adds the following: Frontal Collision Mitigation System, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Monitoring, Rear Cross Traffic Alert, BOSE Audio, All-round View Camera, Adaptive Cruise Control, Heated Second Row Seats, Rear Window Curtains, Panoramic Glass Roof, Wireless Charging, Enlarged 20-inch Wheels, Leather and Aluminum Interior Trim, Adaptive High Beams, etc. Price of Mitsubishi Outlander 2.5 CVT 4WD ULTIMATE – from UAH 1.895 million or almost $49.6 thousand.
The new Mitsubishi Outlander – This includes a 7-seat interior and 3-zone climate control, a digital instrument panel and an electric trunk lid (the latter offers 478 liters of space, by the way). And the maximum configuration also includes luxurious trim, a full range of active safety systems, a panoramic view, and all-round visibility. But isn’t the price of $45-50 thousand too much?
Thankfully, dealers still have some stock of the third-generation Mitsubishi Outlander: the price tags are much lower. And at the same time, there is now a completely new Mitsubishi Outlander – modern, technologically advanced, “advanced”. It adequately closes the question of updating the popular model and meets all expectations. If only the price tag were lowered a bit, it would be almost perfect…
