3D Realms held its annual presentation of Realms Deep 2023, during which it showed a large number of games from its own publishing house and other companies. Known primarily for the iconic Duke Nukem 3D, 3D Realms is now publishing so-called retro shooters – games with gameplay and graphics that mimic the style of legendary projects from the 90s.

The presentation lasted for four hours, and several dozen different games were shown, and we selected a dozen of the most interesting announcements, in our opinion.

Twisted Tower

Twisted Tower developer Atmos Games describes its project as a mix of Bioshock, Willy Wonka, and Disneyland, and the trailer that was released gives exactly that impression. The game already has its own page on Steam, but there is no release date yet.

Phantom Fury

Phantom Fury was announced a year ago at the previous presentation. This is a sequel to the already well-known Ion Fury, which is being developed on a “new” engine – from the first Quake (remember, Ion Fury used the DN3D engine – Build). At the presentation, they announced the release of a demo version, which can be downloaded from Steam. The project still doesn’t have an exact release date, but it should be released by the end of this year.

Ion Fury: Aftershock

Meanwhile, Ion Fury itself is set to receive the long-awaited Aftershock expansion today. It continues the story of the original game and tells about the further adventures of the main character, Shelly Harrison.

Wrath: Aeon of Ruin

Another Quake-powered shooter that’s been in Early Access for a long time, and now it’s finally got a release date. Wrath: Aeon of Ruin is due out on February 27, 2024, and the developer has shown a new trailer to celebrate the release date.

Divine Frequency

From the beginning, Divine Frequency was developed as a total conversion of DOOM II, but now the project has grown into a full-fledged game. A teaser trailer for the project was shown at Realms Deep 2023.

Kingpin Reloaded

The remaster of the once popular shooter was announced a couple of years ago, but there was almost no information about it after that. Now the release date has finally been announced – Kingpin Reloaded will be released on December 5 this year.

CULTIC: Interlude

The spiritual follower of the legendary Blood (which also uses the same Build engine) suddenly got a small addition: Interlude is a new map that combines the first and second parts of the game (or rather, Chapter 1, which was released last October, and Chapter 2, which has not yet been announced).

GRAVEN

Another game that has been in the Early Access status for a long time has finally received a release date: the fantasy GRAVEN, whose authors seem to have been inspired by the classic Hexen, is coming out on January 24, 2024.

RIPOUT

Unlike other projects, RIPOUT has quite modern graphics and less “classic” gameplay. This is an online co-op shooter with horror elements that will be available in the Early Access on October 24 – in the meantime, you can check out the demo.

Prodeus: The Elder Veil

One of the best retro shooters is getting an expansion. The Elder Veil is a new mini-campaign with new weapons and enemies. At Realms Deep 2023, the developer released an announcement trailer, but did not name the release date.

In addition, on the occasion of the presentation, 3D Realms is also holding a similarly named promotion on Steam, during which some games are discounted until October 3 (for example, Cultic or Ion Fury).
