After the launch of the Mazda CX-60 in Ukraine, the local importer did not stop and set its sights on even more. In several senses of the word. After all, we’re talking about the Mazda CX-90 crossover, which offers many of the “best of the best”: the most powerful engine, the largest size and interior, and the highest price. Now I’ll tell you everything in detail.

New Mazda crossover: more… more… MORE!

At one time, the Mazda CX-60 crossover was the first incarnation of a new platform from the Large Product Group series, but even then it was clear that we were expecting larger cars. For example, like the flagship Mazda CX-90 crossover, which is 5.12 meters long – wow, that’s a lot!

And it’s interesting: the increase in body length is mainly due to the increase in the rear part of the body. In fact, the front of the Mazda CX-90 up to the central roof pillar is very similar to the Mazda CX-60, but then we have huge doors and an endless roof, which is held by a massive rear pillar. Such shapes are logical, because the Mazda CX-90 has three rows of seats. However, we’ll talk about the interior later, and now we’ll talk about the exterior, dimensions, and design.

New crossover Mazda CX90 is the flagship for the brand Mazda – it tries to show this not only with its design, but also with its dimensions: length 5.12 meters, width 1.99 meters, height 1.75 meters, wheelbase 3.12 meters. The declared ground clearance exceeds 20 centimeters, and 21-inch wheels are offered for the car. But what else, besides dimensions, can prove the flagship position?

For example, with a powerful engine. Under the hood of the Mazda CX-90 is a gasoline inline 6-cylinder turbocharged engine with the long designation 3.3 SkyActive TURBO MHEV48. What, did you remember the Mazda CX-60 model again with the words “it’s all been done before”? Do not rush to conclusions!

After all, the Mazda CX-90 crossover received a more powerful version of the engine: we have 345 hp and 500 Nm of torque. Such figures make the Mazda CX-90 crossover the most powerful road production car in the history of the company. And yet, the same indicators make the Mazda CX-90 quite dynamic and fast, even taking into account the considerable (2103 kg) curb weight: the promised acceleration to “hundreds” in 6.9 seconds and a top speed of 210 km/h.

The transmission is expected to be a combination of an 8-speed automatic and all-wheel drive. The car will also offer the MI-DRIVE driving mode selection system: normal, sport, off-road, and an additional mode for towing. However, what the Mazda CX-90 crossover does not offer to Ukrainian buyers is an alternative PHEV version, which is available in the model range in other markets.

Another powertrain option for the Mazda CX-90 is an interesting PHEV hybrid: it combines a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder atmospheric engine and an electric motor. Despite the small volume of the internal combustion engine (how is it so small for a large car?!), thanks to the electric motor, the total power is 327 hp – almost comparable to the aforementioned 3.3-liter turbo monster. Plus, there is a bonus in the form of a 17.8 kWh battery that allows you to cover 42 km on electric drive. Doesn’t that sound good?
Unfortunately, the
Mazda CX-90 PHEV version is not listed in the Ukrainian price list. I hope it is “not announced yet”. What is announced?

There is only one configuration, but there are as many as seven seats in the cabin

So, what we have for Ukraine: a large crossover and a 3.3-liter engine with no alternative, combined with an automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. By the way, the equipment is also without alternative. At the moment, only one, but the maximum PREMIUM-LINE version is available for the Mazda CX-90 in Ukraine.

The list of equipment includes AHL LED adaptive headlights and 21-inch wheels, NAPPA leather, heated and ventilated front seats, heated rear seats, sun shades and a separate rear climate, a digital 12, 3-inch instrument cluster, 12.3-inch central touchscreen display, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay wireless connectivity, adaptive cruise control ACC, BOSE audio and projection display, I-ACTIVSENSE security system complex, etc.

At first glance, the front of the cabin Mazda CX-90 reminds us CX-60 again, and we have already seen most of the equipment on the example of the younger model. But the main thing for the car Mazda CX-90 starts behind the first row of seats: increased space for passengers, the presence of a third row of seats. By the way, somewhere in the world there are variants of the Mazda CX-90 with a 6-seater interior and separate “captain’s” seats in the second row.

What else can be added? For example, information about the trunk volume: a minimum of 257 liters (when all three rows of seats are installed), or 608 liters (when the backs of the third row of seats are folded), or a maximum of 2025 liters (the backs of the second row of seats are also folded). We can also add that fuel consumption in the city is promised at 11.6 liters per 100 km; consumption on the highway is stated at 7.2 liters per 100 km. That is, taking into account the 74-liter tank, it promises us 1000 km of mileage!

So, it potentially turns out to be a good “liner” for long distances: spacious, comfortable, powerful. A true flagship that should comfortably take the family on a dream vacation, and raise Mazda to a new level in the automotive world.
