Agility Robotics is completing the construction of a plant in Salem, USA, where it plans to mass-produce humanoid robots called Digit. Each robot will have two legs and two arms and is designed to maneuver freely and work alongside humans in warehouses and factories, writes CNBC.

The company’s co-founder and CEO Damion Shelton says the plant, called RoboFab, will cover 70,000 square feet and is the first of its kind. It is expected to employ more than 500 people and produce up to 10,000 robots a year.

But these plans are for the period when the company will reach its maximum capacity. For now, Agility Robotics is focused on installing and testing its first production lines.

Digit robots have been designed to maneuver and operate in environments where steps or other structures may limit the use of robotics. The robots are powered by lithium-ion batteries.

Some Agility customers are expected to receive their first robots next year. At the same time, the company excludes the possibility of renting or leasing Digit in the near future – the systems are planned to be sold.

By implementing this project, Agility Robotics has outpaced potential competitors, including Tesla with its Optimus initiative. As it is known, Elon Musk presented a prototype of a humanoid robot last fall.
