The early-access remake of Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord
A remake of the very first game in the legendary Wizardry series, Wizardry: Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord (1981), was released on Steam and GOG.com.
Incredibly, this is the same game that once inspired such projects as Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, and Baldur’s Gate, but instead of black and green text graphics, it is made in full 3D, retaining all the mechanics and features of the original.
Digital Eclipse specialists, the same studio that created The Making of Karateka and Atari 50: The Anniversary Celebration, disassembled the game using the original program code from the Apple II and updated it to the modern level, adding new graphics, improving menus, navigation, etc.
The current version of the game is 0.1, and the developers plan to leave the Early Access by the end of 2024.
