HP is making its debut in the folding laptop market with the 17-inch Spectre Fold, which aims to compete with similar offerings from ASUS and Lenovo.
The device features a 17-inch OLED display with a 4:3 aspect ratio and a resolution of 2560×1920 pixels. The screen can be folded to create two 12.3-inch displays, offering different modes of use thanks to the built-in stand and the included Bluetooth keyboard.
The Spectre Fold display is not only large, but also versatile. The device comes with a built-in stand that allows it to be used in a variety of configurations.
The included Bluetooth keyboard can be used wirelessly, allowing you to use the entire 17-inch screen. Alternatively, the keyboard can be attached to the bottom half of the folded laptop, turning it into a more traditional 12.3-inch laptop.
Despite its slim profile, which is only 8.5 mm thick when unfolded, the Spectre Fold does not compromise on battery life. It is equipped with a massive 93 Wh battery.
The device also features a 5-megapixel webcam with Windows Hello, privacy curtain, and HP Presence 2.0 for enhanced video calling. It also features a four-speaker system and comes with a pen that magnetically attaches to the side for charging.
The Spectre Fold is powered by a 12th Generation Intel Core i7-1250U processor with low power consumption. This means that it cannot offer performance on par with high-end laptops. The Spectre Fold also comes with 16GB of RAM and offers up to 1TB of SSD storage. Although the model lacks some ports, it has two Thunderbolt 4 connectors for connecting peripherals and adapters.
HP has emphasized the eco-friendly design of the Spectre Fold. The device is made up of 90% recycled magnesium for the body and keyboard bezel, 50% recycled plastic for the screen bezel, keys, and speaker housing, and 33% recycled materials for the keyboard module. Even the packaging is environmentally friendly, made from 100% wood fiber.
The price of the HP Spectre Fold is $4,999, and the folding laptop is scheduled to start selling in the US in October.
