Not only smartphone displays can be folded. ASUS presented a large 17-inch laptop whose display can be bent in half. It is intended for users who, according to the manufacturer, “need a device with the perfect balance of mobility and performance in a modern design.”

Such a laptop has several models of use. It can be completely open and allows you to work with external manipulators (a keyboard with a trackpad is included), can provide a virtual keyboard in a half-folded state, can be used as a book or tablet. All cases are designed to work in different conditions, which should provide the user with mobility and work comfort.

When folded, Zenbook 17 Fold is smaller than a sheet of paper, so it takes up less space during transportation than a regular laptop with a display of this size. The dimensions of the unfolded state of the case are 378.5×287.6×8.7-12.9 mm, and when folded – 287.6×189.3×17.4-34.4 mm. The weight without the keyboard is not very large – 1.5 kg, and with it it will increase by an additional 300 grams.

The keyboard measures 285×182×5.5 mm. In the semi-folded state of the laptop, it can be fixed on the lower half of the display using magnets.

In addition, ASUS notes compliance with the requirements of the military-industrial standard MIL-STD-810H. The hinge is designed for 30,000 folds. It is stated that it should work for about 9 years if the display is opened 6 times a day. That is, most likely, the user will replace the laptop sooner than this one will fail.

The 17.3-inch OLED display has a 2.5K resolution with a 4:3 aspect ratio. In the semi-folded state, it can be virtually divided into two screens with Full HD and 3:2. The image refresh rate is 60 Hz. Also, the matrix should provide 100% shades of the DCI-P3 range. Of course, the display is touch sensitive.

In addition, it can automatically adjust the level of illumination and color temperature. With an infrared sensor and a 5-megapixel webcam, it can also monitor the user’s presence and lock the system if the owner is away. There are also four Harman/Kardon speakers with Dolby Atmos support in the case.

Inside the laptop is an Intel Core i7-1250U with Intel Iris X, 16 GB of RAM (LPDDR5) and 1 TB storage (PCIe 4.0), which together meet Intel Evo standards. For wireless connectivity, there is Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.2, and for other accessories, there are two Thunderbolt 4 ports and a 3.5mm Jack.
