Elon Musk voiced a new version of the events surrounding the absence of the Starlink satellite communications network in Crimea, which resulted in the disruption of Ukraine’s attack on the Russian fleet. He shared it during the All-In Summit technology conference.
According to the billionaire, Starlink in the Crimea region was shut down due to US sanctions against Russia. Therefore, he had no right to turn on the satellite network without special permission from the White House.
At the same time, Elon Musk reiterated information about requests from Ukrainian officials to turn on the Starlink network near Crimea. He would have agreed to do so if he had received a direct directive from U.S. President Joe Biden.
Meanwhile, users of the X platform noticed an interesting “coincidence”. During the attack on Sevastopol on the night of September 13, 2023, the Starlink communication network failed.
As a reminder, the scandal surrounding Elon Musk and Starlink concerns a situation that occurred in 2022. It became known after CNN published an excerpt from the billionaire’s biography. The book describes that Elon Musk secretly asked his engineers to disable the Starlink network off the Crimean coast and disrupted the Ukrainian operation against the Russian navy.
Elon Musk denied that he disconnected Starlink near Crimea. According to him, there was no connection there from the beginning. Meanwhile, he refused to turn it on when Ukraine urgently asked for it. Finally, in the US, a Democratic senator called for an investigation into Elon Musk and SpaceX over the Starlink scandal in Ukraine.
