This year’s update of Apple’s iPhone 15 line of smartphones cannot be called revolutionary. The new iPhones are certainly better than their predecessors, but the changes are not as drastic as the company’s fans and fans of modern technology would like. However, there are several significant upgrades, and let’s start with those that can be seen visually.

The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus have Dynamic Island. Let me remind you that this is a software feature of smartphones that masks the front camera and Face ID sensors. It is dynamic thanks to the support of Live Activities – a variety of notifications that appear inside Dynamic Island and allow you to interact with them. For example, you can control music playback, view delivery status, or get navigation tips from Apple Maps.

Less noticeable visually, but very significant in the context of Apple, is the appearance of the USB-C port. Yes, you can finally use one cable to charge your MacBook, iPad, iPhone, and AirPods Pro. USB-C in the iPhone 15/iPhone 15 Plus supports DisplayPort, but it is a USB 2 specification, so the maximum data transfer rate is up to 480 Mbps. But you can charge AirPods or Apple Watch via a USB-C cable.

The main camera now has a resolution of 48 MP. This made it possible to implement a “virtual telephoto lens” with a double zoom by crop from the sensor of the main module. As a result, the iPhone 15 / iPhone 15 Plus offers users three focal lengths: 13 mm (12 MP ultra-wide camera, f/2.4, 120-degree field of view), 26 mm (48 MP camera, f/1.6, 24 MP and 48 MP shooting modes are supported), 52 mm (12 MP crop from the main module, f/1.6).

On an interesting note, users can now take portrait photos without having to switch to portrait mode. When a person, cat, or dog is in the frame, iPhone automatically collects data on the depth of the image, so you can apply the bokeh effect later in the Photos app. Night mode and Smart HDR technology have also been improved.

The diagonal of the Super Retina XDR displays has not changed – 6.1″ for iPhone 15 and 6.7″ for iPhone 15 Plus. The peak brightness has increased to 2000 nits, which is twice as much as its predecessors. The A16 Bionic chipset is responsible for the performance of the smartphones, as in the iPhone 14 / iPhone 14 Pro models.

The new products are equipped with a second-generation Ultra Wideband chip. It triples the range of the Precision Finding search function. So now you can search not only for your keys around the apartment, but also for your friends somewhere in a crowded place. The smartphones also support MagSafe and Qi2 charging technologies.

The iPhone 15 and iPhone 15 Plus are available in five colors: black, blue, green, yellow, and pink. The frame is made of aluminum, and the back panel is made of colored glass with a matte finish. There will be no leather cases for smartphones anymore – instead, the cases are made of a material that Apple has called FineWoven.
