Famous rapper Post Malone, a big fan of the Magic: The Gathering card game, has purchased the rarest card in MTG history, The One Ring, for $2 million, writes Polygon.

The One Ring card exists in a single copy and is part of The Lord of The Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth, based on J.R.R. Tolkien’s fantasy saga The Lord of the Rings. The unique card has a foil coating and inscriptions in Elven language. The card was included in a random Collector Booster, which led to a real treasure hunt. The cost of the Collector Booster Pack (a set of 12 Collector Boosters) skyrocketed to almost $520, which is twice the usual price.

Unique card has been found June 30, 2023 by unknown player. The PSA evaluation company confirmed the authenticity of the card. And now there is information about the acquisition of The One Ring for $2 million.

MTG The One Ring

Post Malone’s proposed price makes The One Ring the most expensive Magic: The Gathering card in history. The previous most expensive MTG card, the legendary Black Lotus, sold for $615,000 in March 2022. However, it should be noted that unlike The One Ring, the Black Lotus exists in multiple copies.

Two other rare Magic: The Gathering cards that exist in a single copy are Shichifukujin Dragon (1996) and 1996 World Champion (1996). The first has never been sold, and the second hasn’t been for sale since 2001, so we can only guess at its true value.

As a reminder, the free digital version of MTG – Magic: The Gathering Arena was recently released on Steam so you can try out The Lord of the Rings: Tales of Middle-Earth set on your own and not for as much money as paper cards. And yes, there are regular digital copies of The One Ring in this game as well.
