Microsoft has been gradually moving Windows to the cloud for commercial use through Windows 365, and now the tech giant plans to extend that strategy to consumers. An internal Microsoft presentation from June 2022 reveals the company’s intention to use Windows 365 “to enable a full Windows operating system streamed from the cloud to any device,” reports The Verge.

The presentation, released during the FTC v. Microsoft hearing, outlines Microsoft’s comprehensive gaming strategy and its relationship with other segments of the corporation’s business. The prospect of moving Windows 11 increasingly into the cloud is highlighted as an important element of Microsoft’s consumer space called “Modern Life.” The company aims to harness “the power of the cloud and client to enable improved AI-powered services and full roaming of people’s digital experience.”

Windows 365 is a service that streams the full version of Windows to your device. It’s currently only available to business customers, but Microsoft is deeply integrating it into Windows 11. A future update will introduce Windows 365 Boot, which will allow Windows 11 devices to log directly in to a Cloud PC instance at boot instead of the local version of Windows.
