Ubisoft and Netflix released a teaser trailer for the upcoming Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix anime. The animated series is a tongue-in-cheek remix of Ubisoft’s intellectual property and early ’90s nostalgia, based on the 2013 Blood Dragon expansion for Far Cry 3.

The trailer was introduced by series creator Adi Shankar, who is also a producer on Netflix’s Castlevania series. He described the series as a love letter to the 90s, or at least to his memories of the 90s, and as a crazy anime series that remixes characters from Ubisoft’s vast library.

The series is set in an alternative universe of 1992, where the United States has disintegrated, and in its place there is a country called Eden, characterized by strong Orwellian shades. The main character, super soldier Dolph Lazerhawk, is betrayed by his lover and imprisoned in the top security prison Supermax. In order to survive, he must lead a team of exiled rebels who carry out risky undercover missions.

Shankar describes the series as violent, dystopian fiction reminiscent of the works of Aldous Huxley. It’s also mockery, a satire, a dark comedy, a love story and, according to Shankar, “the most philosophically conscious show you’ve seen in a long time.” Animation for the series was created by Bobbypills studio.

Captain Laserhawk: A Blood Dragon Remix is scheduled to premiere worldwide on Netflix this fall.
