Apple Corporation acquired the American start up Mira, which develops augmented reality headsets for other companies and the US military, reports The Verge.

“Apple buys smaller technology companies from time to time, and we generally do not discuss our purpose or plans,” the tech giant said.

Apple reportedly hired at least 11 Mira employees as part of the deal.

“Excited for Mira’s next chapter, at Apple :),” the startup’s CEO Ben Taft wrote on Instagram. “7 year journey from dorm room to acquisition.”

Mira’s military contracts include a contract with the US Air Force and a contract with the Navy worth more than $702,000. It stipulates that military pilots at Travis Air Force Base will use the startup’s Prism Pro headset for displays, including instructions for operating aerobatic equipment.

Mira has another contract with Nintendo World, which uses its Mario Kart headsets in its theme parks in Japan and Universal Studios in Los Angeles. The Mira headset displays virtual characters and items from the game to complement the attraction as users walk through it.

Earlier, Apple presented an augmented and virtual reality (AR/VR) headset Vision Pro. Its main focus is not so much on immersing the user in virtual reality, but on expanding its possibilities thanks to the combination of the real world with the digital one. The cost of the headset is $3499.
