The russian occupiers blew up the Kakhovka HPP, it was completely destroyed

On the night of June 6, Russian occupation forces blew up the Kakhovka HPP. As a result of the explosion of the engine room from the inside, the station was completely destroyed and cannot be restored. It is announced by Ukrhydroenergo PJSC.

“According to the preliminary forecast, the reservoir is expected to be drained within the next 4 days. As of 9:00 a.m. on June 6, the water level in the Kakhovka reservoir is rapidly decreasing, and evacuation of the population from potential flood areas has begun,” Ukrhydroenergo added.

They emphasized that an uncontrolled decrease in the reservoir level is an additional threat to the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhia NPP.

“The water from the Kakhovka reservoir is necessary for the plant to receive water for turbine condensers and ZNPP safety systems. The cooling pond is now full. Ukrainian ZNPP personnel are monitoring all indicators,” the statement said.

Ukrhydroenergo continues to analyze the situation, and the company’s specialists are working to clarify the extent of the damage, the speed and volume of water.

Operational Command “South” is also informing about tracking the situation. They reminded us of the algorithm of actions to be followed: turn off electrical appliances, gas stoves and shut off all communications in the apartment; take documents and necessary things; evacuate to safe places; provide assistance to those who need it.

For its part, the Defense Intelligence of Ukraine noted that blowing up the dam of the Kakhovka reservoir is an obvious act of terrorism and war crime that will be used as evidence in an international tribunal.

“This terrorist act has created a deadly danger for Ukrainian citizens in settlements on both banks of the Dnipro River below the Kakhovka reservoir. This is an undeniable act of ecocide and an obvious war crime, the impact of which goes far beyond Ukraine and affects the ecosystem of the entire Black Sea region,” the Main Directorate of Intelligence emphasized.

The Main Directorate of Intelligence reminded that they had reported major mining operations immediately after the seizure of the Kakhovka HPP. Last April, additional mining of the locks and supports was carried out. Tilt trucks with explosives were placed on the dam itself.

“This terrorist act is a sign of panic by the Putin regime and an attempt to complicate the actions of the Ukrainian Special Operations and Defence Forces. It will become a strong evidence at the international tribunal, which undoubtedly awaits everyone involved in the commission of war crimes on the territory of Ukraine,” they added.

In addition, it was clarified that the Russian occupiers blew up the dam on June 6, 2023, at about 02:30 am. They also published a video of the aftermath of the explosion.

People also publish photos of the consequences of flooding in southern Ukraine after the occupiers blew up the Kakhovka hydroelectric power plant on the Internet. For example, in one Telegram channel they showed pictures of the right bank of the Kherson region near the village of Odradokamyanka.

As you know, Kakhovka HPP was built in 1950 in southern Ukraine near Nova Kakhovka, Kherson region. Six vertical hydroelectric units with a total installed capacity of 334.8 MW were installed at the plant.
