Here’s how it goes: even bestseller status doesn’t guarantee a bright future. The Mazda CX-5 crossover of the second generation sold 365,000 units worldwide in just one year, the car recently received an update package – but until recently it was not known whether the third generation of the popular model would be released.

The fact is that the Mazda company spent quite a lot on the development of Mazda CX-30, Mazda CX-50, Mazda CX-60 cars. Moreover, all of them together create internal competition for the Mazda CX-5 – partial, but still attracting customers.

At the same time, the Mazda CX-5 also does not want to lose its niche: the car is larger compared to the Mazda CX-30, cheaper than the Mazda CX-60, and is offered on the global world market – compared to the Mazda CX-50 model, which is mainly intended for the US market. Therefore, a positive decision regarding the development of the third generation Mazda CX-5 has been made: about says the Australian publication DRIVE.

Some details of the new product are already known. First, the debut of the car is expected by 2025. Secondly, the new Mazda CX-5 crossover should become a hybrid – this will help comply with strict environmental regulations. Third, the model will have 4-cylinder engines with a transverse layout and front or all-wheel drive – no 6-cylinder engines and a platform with an emphasis on rear-wheel drive, as in the Mazda CX-60: everything to keep the “people’s price”. It is possible that the Mazda CX-5 will be able to defend its status as a bestseller again!
