The Samsung Display division presented the world’s first OLED panel with a built-in fingerprint scanner and heart rate sensor. This display, called Sensor OLED, can significantly simplify the process of integrating biometric sensors into smartphones and tablets. Such screens may appear in top gadgets already in the near future.

Sensor OLED has a built-in OPD (Organic PhotoDiode) light sensor. This means that the manufacturer does not need to install a separate fingerprint reader under the OLED panel, saving money and space inside the device.

The new panel can read fingerprints in any part of it, as well as measure heart rate simultaneously from several fingers. This allows the device to offer more accurate biometric authentication. In addition, the user’s blood pressure and stress level can be measured using the display.

“To accurately measure a person’s blood pressure, it is necessary to measure it on both hands. The Sensor OLED panel can simultaneously read data from the fingers of both hands, providing more accurate health information than wearable gadgets that are currently available,” said the head of Samsung Display.
